Concept For a Story

Sat Nov 14, 2009, 11:03 PM
In an earlier entry I was discussing whether or not I'd help out with an RPG game at conventions, but it was based on whether or not people wanted it. Well, it turns out that a few people do. Nearly a dozen people are in favour of having me to up another game. A couple of people do not, and one in particular never wants it to be ever mentioned again (despite not stating their reasoning), but whatever. Majority counts, right?

I've put the concept across to a gaming community, and one person said that they liked the idea of the background info of where the antagonists came from.

The group is called the "Will Breakers". They're a mercenary group of bad luck cheap-shooters who are paid to take down all the strong opponents in a village, and break the will of those who survive so that there will be no resistance once the overlords who wish to conquer it, appear.

They are currently heading towards the village where the heroes will happen to be arriving. During the time that they were gone, one of the enemy scouts had infiltrated the city to find out all the information he could on the village, and watch them for himself what everyone capable of. He will be told of the heroes, but the villagers haven't really seen them in action, so it'll be deduced that they're no more than a your standard hero strength. Other than that, the city guards, palace guards, and captains average barely average in strength and ability. Nothing to really be all that concerned about for the antagonists being paid to take down the port city.

When they're ready to strike, they'll be sending in a messenger from the last town they raided, to tell them that they're coming, and once he's said what's needed to said, he'll die outright in a burst of flames.

Each of the bad guys will have a specific ability. One can curse you with bad luck, one drains you of your energy, one prevents priest magic from being used, one breathes death, one can control and manipulate the undead, and one has the ability to kill you in a flash.

There will be three scenarios with three teams, over the course of the day. One will face off against the undead, and two will try to take down the mercenaries.

Hopefully this will be something that will interest people, and make them want to join in.

That's for one of the stories. I've still got a second one.

This one, I'm going to have someone came back to the town to exact their revenge on a king who's getting fat thanks to his people. He's not a terrible tyrant per se, he's just super lazy and takes everything for granted. Unfortunately that includes the life and well being of his people.

Anyone watch the Disney Robin Hood? The one with everyone being an animal? Thanks to that version of Prince John, and the anime series Sacred Blacksmith, I've come up with a scenario for the other game I'll be running.

Essentially he's going to be an extremely evil and vindictive version of Robin Hood, and the ones who'll be helping him will be the unfortunate villagers who were put in prison because they couldn't pay the ridiculously high taxes. It'll be a form of mind control that's going to be "implanted" through the water and food they eat.

They'll break out, act like zombies (but won't be), and head up to the castle gates to take out the king. The heroes have to stop them, save the king (even if they don't want to), and find out who's controlling these people against their will. What they decide to do to the king afterwards will be completely up to them.

Again, I hope people enjoy the game, and scenario I bring to the table.

Turkey Dinner

Mon Oct 12, 2009, 12:07 AM
Just want to wish all of my fellow Canucks a Happy Thanksgiving today. Hope you all enjoy your turkey, roast chicken, ham, stuffing, and whatever else you have at your place.

Had my supper today with most of the family (sister went to her boyfriend's mom's place), and some of the extended family, after work today. It was nice having so many together. Just too bad I have to work tomorrow. Wish I could be like other people, and have tomorrow off, and get paid to stay at home. Must be nice.

Tomorrow's also going to be all about the leftovers. And the next day, and probably the next couple after that. ^^;

Hope everyone's taking care.

Home Again

Wed Jul 29, 2009, 9:03 AM
I've been back since Sunday night, but I've been too tired and groggy to really leave an entry on here. Sleep wasn't exactly a priority during the weekend.

To sum up what happened over the course of the weekend, I'll write this all out in point form:

Friday
- Left for the con bright and early and nearly died three times because my dad's an insane driver.
- Arrived at hotel only to find out I don't exist for registration, but thankfully that got settled and I got my room.
- Registered at the con then took a nap until my anime based RPG started.
- Had as much fun as one could have at 3 AM with people leaving to get sleep instead of playing the RPG, but still accomplished all the major goals, and gave out prizes.

Saturday
- Got up to eat and realized that food back home tastes better.
- Bought Japanese snacks in the vendor's room.
- Went to the cosplay contest only to get denied because the line was 600 feet long, and I just couldn't get in so I ended up going back to my hotel room to watch anime on my laptop.
- Made an appearance at the dance only to find everyone wearing a ridiculous amount of glowsticks everywhere, and a friend's boyfriend dressed up as a woman. Coolest aspect was Darth Vadar being there with a lit up chest plate and everything.

Sunday
- Packed up, and paid for the hotel.
- Bought more Japanese snacks, a boxset, and a Slayers wall scroll.
- Watched a great deal of awesome AMVs (anime music videos), but was surprised that the cooler ones didn't win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
- Said my good byes to everyone, went home with a friend and his brothers, and nearly died six times on the way back because he too is an insane driver.

That about covers it. Not sure if I'm going back next year, but I was asked to do the RPG again. I'm going to think about it, but no promises.

And thanks to that Princess Tutu amv that they started the contest with, the song that I'm currently listening to is constantly on repeat. ^^;

Leaving Town on a Trip

Thu Jul 23, 2009, 5:19 PM
I'm on vacation for a week, and am leaving for Ai-Kon first thing tomorrow morning. I mean that literally. I was hoping for 8 AM, but due to unforeseen circumstances being what they are, it's going to be 5 AM. I am going to absolutely die. :fear: Even more so because I have to run an anime based RPG from 10 PM until around 3 AM (possibly longer). I'm getting way too old for all-nighters, but this is just one of those necessary evils. That, and this is what happens when you don't have a reliable car that can drive you back and forth around the city at your own leisure. It wouldn't be a problem, but the check-in time at the hotel isn't until 3 PM, which also happens to be the check-in time for the convention itself. :shakefist:

I was actually planning on cosplaying this year since it'll be my final time going, but they've stepped security on all props being considered potential weapons, and it's WAY too hot to be wearing a sweater (which the character does).

Wish me luck. Hopefully everything goes according to plan, and I end up having a good time. Probably see a few of you there.

Development

Wed May 6, 2009, 1:02 PM
A story that a friend and I conceived back in high school, has been in its final stage for a good long while. After he left to go get married, and dropped all the things he and I enjoyed doing together for his wife, and then moved away, I had lost all reason to complete it. At least he gave me full rights to the story. Not that I really wanted that. However, an aquaintance of ours found the epilogue by chance while I was cleaning up, gave it a look over, and asked where the rest of it was. I filled him in, and he looked a little disappointed. Especially when I told him that an ending hadn't been agreed upon, and a lot of it was still short hand notes.

To make a long story short, I got asked to turn the story into an RPG campaign story for the annual gaming convention. I'd done it a few times in the past, and even did RPs at the annual anime convention for a couple of years. I hadn't given up doing RPs, I just had no real desire to be the one who did the story, only have a bunch of people butcher and trample all over it. Apparently there'd been a few people who enjoyed my games in the past, and had been asking if I was ever coming back since they hadn't seen me for a few years. I don't know if he was just stroking my ego, but by the end of the conversation I found myself agreeing to finishing the story enough that it'd be worthy of a role-playing tournament. Unfortunately I won't have it ready for either convention that's coming up this year (mainly because I'm only allowed to book off one of the two weekends from work and I'm already doing an RP at the second convention), so it'll be for next year. Needless to say that I'm quite honoured. I didn't know anyone cared.

The only problem I've got, is I procrastinate. ^^; I'm terrible at that. Even the one that I've gotta have ready for July is barely half finished, and I've got a guest Game Master that I've still gotta prepare notes for. I have to learn how to use my time my efficiently.
